Madden 18: Simulating the Falcons’ Season

By Michael Aprile

Every year, a new Madden game comes out. And every year, it’s fun to simulate the entire Madden season to see what kind of crazy things happen. This year, there was a lot of crazy.

Five Takeaways from the Falcons’ Second Preseason Game Against Pittsburgh

By Cory Woodroof

The Atlanta Falcons’ second preseason game was like a game of Who’s Line is It Anyway – it was a cataclysm of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Wait a second that’s not right. Well, I mean, it kind of is when you think about it.

In a trip to the Steel City, the Falcons’ starters throttled the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starters (well, the ones not including the team’s three best players, Big Ben, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, who are all very good), and the Steelers’ reserves throttled the Falcons’ reserves. All in all, it was just some dumb preseason game in a city known for putting French fries on sandwiches (which tastes good, for what it’s worth). Continue reading

On the Brink of a New Falcons Season: For Us, For Them, For 28-3

By Cory Woodroof

Flash-forward with me to February 2018.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday. Your friends are coming over for the big game, you’ve got the pre-shows on while vacuuming the living room. Pizzas will be arriving soon. Kickoff’s in a little bit.

Who’s playing?

Of course the Patriots. Bleh, forget those guys. They’re here every year. Went 13-3 in the regular season, Belichick never sounded happy about it, waltzed through the playoffs (well, the Steelers gave them a run for their money in the AFC Championship, but of course, Brady weapon number 145 came down with that one catch they won’t stop playing on ESPN).

The other team? Continue reading

The Terribly Amazing 2016 Atlanta Falcons Season

By Cory Woodroof

Can things be both amazing and terrible at the same time?

It seems paradoxical to the point of defeating to try and make a thing both good and bad in order to properly frame it, but such is the difficulty of trying to look at a sports season.

Great things can happen! But, then, it can end in the worst way imaginable. Brighter days ahead! But boy, those scars still burn. What a wonderful time! But, good golly, the way we left things. Continue reading

Falcons Must Right an Old Wrong to Achieve Super Bowl Glory

By Cory Woodroof

You couldn’t have scripted it better than this.

The Atlanta Falcons, a franchise of constant sorrow for 51 years, rises like the dirty bird from the ashes of disappointment and mounts a miracle season to propel them to Super Bowl 51.

These fantastically-fated Falcons will face off against the Big Daddy of all post-2000 football programs in the big game – the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick New England Patriots, winner of four Lombardi trophies and crushers of worlds. Continue reading

Falcons Set Date with Destiny in Packers Rematch after Seahawks Win

By Cory Woodroof

You knew it was going to come down to this, right?

The Atlanta Falcons’ miracle season – the one neither me, you, Todd McClure or Freddie Falcon could’ve seen coming – heads towards the pantheon of playoff destiny, with Atlanta’s David about to square off against two of football’s towering Goliaths. Continue reading

Quinn’s Falcons Must Pave Their Own Path in Playoffs

By Cory Woodroof

You know how the next two weeks are going to go.

“You know how those Falcons always fold in the playoffs!”

“Matt Ryan? More like Matt Cryin’ ‘cuz he choked away another playoff game!”

“Wait, the Falcons are in the playoffs? Well, they’ll lose early, I bet.”

“Wait, Matt Ryan is an MVP candidate? What has he done?”

“What’s an Atlanta Falcon?”

Look, we’ve been here before, and we’ve had our share of disappointments regarding the p-word: playoffs. Continue reading

Falcons Must First Take Care of Division Business Before Making January Plans

By Cory Woodroof

Perhaps Bachmann-Turner Overdrive summed it up best when Falcon fandom thinks of the next two games for the Falcons.

The Canadian rock band slammed down the hard facts about their workday – they were going to take care of business before the fun began! They were even going to be working overtime. They got the job done, no matter the task (random: here’s the Christmas reimagining of that song).

So, the Falcons must channel their inner Bachman-Turner Overdrive if they’re going to be making post-New Year’s Day plans.

The team, over the last month, has been playing great football. After the bye, the team thrashed three-fourths of the NFC West and came within an Eric Berry interception of beating the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs (proof that you really, indeed, just can’t win them all). Two of those blowout victories came without otherworldly WR Julio Jones in tow (*rimshot*) because of injury …to, y’know, his toe. It’s Christmas season, folks. Just politely giggle.
