Three Questions with Karoly: Dan Quinn, 2019 defensive end prospects, and where the Falcons go from here

By Matt Karoly

What a nightmare season it’s been. Since we last checked in, the Falcons have lost their last three contests and the defense has been responsible for 114 points.

They also have lost two more defensive stalwarts in Ricardo Allen and Grady Jarrett. Imagine removing the heart of an organism and expecting it to continue to flourish. That is what’s being asked of the Falcons defense right now.

Three Questions with Karoly: Julio’s legacy, NFL safety market, and what to do with the Falcons RB situation

By Matt Karoly

Greetings, Rise Up Readers! I am back for another installment of the Mattlanta Mon…wait, today’s not Monday!

Instead of continuing the Mattlanta Monday Mailbag series, I decided a bit of a re-branding was necessary with my monthly column this season. Now dubbed Three Questions with Karoly, I will be selecting two questions from you, the people, with the third question being one of my own that I’ve deemed to be the most relevant in the Falcons community today.

Atlanta Falcons 53 Man Roster Projection

By Matt Karoly

The Atlanta Falcons wrapped up the 2018 preseason with a 34-7 defeat at the hands of the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night. With the loss, the Falcons finished the exhibition schedule with an 0-4 record for the second consecutive year.

However, that means very little in the grand scheme of the things. The good news is Atlanta enters the regular season with a fairly clean bill of health with Blidi Wreh-Wilson’s status to be determined.

All that’s left now is to determine what players will walk into Lincoln Financial Field for the regular season opener. With that said, I present to you my one and only 53 man roster projection for the Falcons.

Five Questions To Be Answered By The Falcons This Preseason

By Matt Karoly

Oh happy day! Today officially marks the beginning of another year of Atlanta Falcons football. In a few short hours, the Falcons will kick off the 2018 preseason against the New York Jets.

While very little can be gleaned from the first preseason game, we should find answers to our most pressing questions over the course of the four game exhibition slate. Here are the five questions I hope to have answered by the time the regular season rolls around.

Who Stays, Who Goes, and Whose Future is in Doubt for the Falcons

By Matt Karoly

With the Falcons roster seemingly set for 2018, now’s as good a time as any to step into the future and examine how this organization plans to keep the machine rolling. By my estimation, Atlanta will have $148.5 million committed to 30 players that I’ve deemed to be safe roster bets in 2019.

It’s Time for Atlanta’s Plan D

By Kirk Whitmire

From the onset of Dan Quinn’s tenure in the good ol’ ATL, a program was implemented. A program that would take young, raw, athletic talents and develop them into serviceable, if not starting-caliber players. Dan Quinn believed that these kinds of players were a critical part of team building. Continue reading

Rise Up Reader Falcons/Bills 2017 Preview

By Cory Woodroof

Ladies and gentlemen, your Atlanta Falcons are 3-0.

It’s a good thing! The Falcons, coming off the worst ending to a season ever, have won two of their eight road games, and have beaten Aaron Rodgers, to start the year. The offense has put up 30 or more the last two games, and the defense is finally starting to come together. Though, they’re a bit nicked up right now on both sides of the ball, and a surprising 2-1 Buffalo Bills team is set to make the trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

So, before the early bye week, the team will close out the quarter mark of the season with a home stand against the stampede. How will they fare? Let’s take a look-see, shall we? Continue reading

Five Takeaways from the Falcons Week One Win over the Bears

By Cory Woodroof

*finishes hyperventilating*

Oh, hey, everyone, are you still alive?

After the hate-eternal gut punch of Super Bowl 51, the Atlanta Falcons got back at it in the Windy City against a stout Chicago Bears squad. The team didn’t bring the fireworks on offense like we got accustomed to seeing last season, but they did more than enough to secure a win, though it was the defense who sealed the deal.
