Addressing the Falcons’ Biggest Needs

By Michael Aprile

By now, most of us have had enough time to try and digest what happened on February 5th, 2017. That day will forever be a scar in Falcons’ history—one that only a Super Bowl victory will be able to help us forget. Now that they’ve reached the cusp of greatness, many will be expecting Atlanta to get back there very soon, as soon as next season.

Thanks to drafting extremely well the past few seasons, signing impact free agents, and intelligently filling out the roster, the Falcons are in a position to get right back to the top, and this time they’ll be equipped to finish the fight. The Falcons don’t have many needs, but we’ll address the most glaring ones here, in no particular order. Continue reading

Episode 5: A New Hope—Rise Up Reader Podcast

This week, see if Michael and Cory can dig themselves out of the deep, dark abyss of depression that was the Falcons’ devastating and unfathomable Super Bowl loss. They’ll talk through their free agency wish lists, pretending the agonizing pain of blowing a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl isn’t still staring them in the face (at least for Michael it is). The two will do their best to provide you with some hope going into next season, break down the latest coaching changes, and Cory struggles with some unwanted gas (no context needed). Enjoy!

Episode 4: Exclusive Interview with Michael “Burner” Turner—Rise Up Reader Podcast

This week, Michael and Cory were joined by Falcons’ legend and former All-Pro running back, Michael “The Burner” Turner. We checked in with Turner to see what he’s been up to since retiring in 2012, what differences he sees in Matt Ryan this season, and we get his take on which team would win: the ’12 Falcons or the ’16 Falcons. Enjoy!

“What Happened to Matt Ryan” Revisited

by Steve Cohen

There are some life moments that are so memorable and significant that you never forget where you were when they happened. Some quickly come to mind for me. The announcement that Osama Bin Laden was killed. Superstorm Sandy. The Bleacher Report publication of “What Happened to Falcons QB Matt Ryan?”

An Ode to the Matt Ryan Haters—In Their Own Words

by Steve Cohen

Two of the most vocal Matt Ryan doubters/haters on Twitter during recent seasons have been @SwiftHitter and @lindseyyok. Attempting to engage in any kind of Ryan-related discussion with either individual was a pointless effort, typically met with responses emphasizing that Ryan sucks in the playoffs and throws interceptions, or how he wasn’t #elite like Joe Flacco or as good as Andy Dalton.

With Matt Ryan about to play in the Super Bowl and just named Most Valuable Player, it seemed as good a time as any to collect and relive his prominent critics’ tweets from the last five years.

Presented below in reverse-chronological order without commentary, because why mar fine art with commentary?

Vic Beasley Proving Patience Pays Off

by Greg Weinstein

The Falcons wasted another top-10 pick. He isn’t strong enough to compete in the NFL. I wanted the local RB Todd Gurley. Vic Beasley is a bust. That is what was said prior to the 2016 season after just one professional year in the NFL for the eighth-overall pick in the 2015 draft.
