Five Takeaways from Falcons’ First 2017 Preseason Game Against Miami

By Cory Woodroof

The Atlanta Falcons blew a lead to an NFC East team Thursday night, but thankfully, this loss won’t make you feel hollow on the inside.

The Falcons lost 23-20 to the Miami Dolphin in the most meaningless game on the NFL calendar – the first preseason game. Matt Ryan had a touchdown pass to RB Devonta Freeman to cap the first team offense’s night, and the first-team defense showed their fast, physical play against a Matt Moore-led Miami offense. The two teams will meet again in October at the new stadium, when Jay Cutler is likely under center. Continue reading

The Ever-Changing Story of Falcons CB Jalen Collins

By Cory Woodroof

In January, the story on Jalen Collins was different.

It’s not the one we’re telling today, the one where a young-but-promising cornerback has been suspended for a second-straight season for violating the NFL’s rules for using performance enhancing drugs.

One where, for the first ten games of the year, Collins will be sitting at home, watching his Atlanta Falcons try to make its climb back to postseason football (he’s not even allowed to be at the facility for that stretch).

One where some question Collins’ future with the team once his suspension is lifted. Continue reading

The Dirty Bird Ten – Atlanta Falcons Training Camp, Week One

By Cory Woodroof

Why, good day, fair Falcons fandom!

It’s about a week from the day the Atlanta Falcons first arrived in their vehicles to the facility where camp happens, and we’ve seen some cool stuff, talked about some interesting camp stories on our highly-vaunted social media pages and have even convinced ourselves February was just a cruel dream shared by the entire state of Georgia and select surrounding areas, and the Falcons actually had a team party last February at the Georgia Dome with pizzas and soda pop and bouncey houses and Freddie Falcon singing karaoke (N*SYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye”) with Rich McKay, Jeff Ulbrich, Sharrod Neasman and the AJC’s Mark Bradley. On the Brink of a New Falcons Season: For Us, For Them, For 28-3

By Cory Woodroof

Flash-forward with me to February 2018.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday. Your friends are coming over for the big game, you’ve got the pre-shows on while vacuuming the living room. Pizzas will be arriving soon. Kickoff’s in a little bit.

Who’s playing?

Of course the Patriots. Bleh, forget those guys. They’re here every year. Went 13-3 in the regular season, Belichick never sounded happy about it, waltzed through the playoffs (well, the Steelers gave them a run for their money in the AFC Championship, but of course, Brady weapon number 145 came down with that one catch they won’t stop playing on ESPN).

The other team? Continue reading
