The Rise Up Reader April Falcons 2017 Mock Draft

By Cory Woodroof

We did another one of these because we can’t stop.

And, we included a bunch of other picks for other teams in some rounds. Commentary only for the Falcons ‘cuz that’s all any of us really care about.

FALCONS SELECT DE DEREK RIVERS (YOUNGSTOWN STATE)

I’ve got the Falcons missing out on G Forrest Lamp (Dolphins!) and landing a guy the Falcons have already put through a workout and apparently have strong interest in – DE Derek Rivers, who can play in a situational role behind Vic Beasley and Adrian Clayborn for his rookie year. Dan Quinn will help Rivers grow to reach his full potential like he did with Beasley and DT Grady Jarrett – the main defensive line draft picks made in Quinn’s tenure. The Falcons’ interest in Rivers may have them reach up to get him in the first round, akin to what they did with S Keanu Neal in 2016. That worked out well. Rivers could, too.

NFC SOUTH MUSINGS AFTER THE FIRST ROUND

The Saints pick up two defensive pieces in CB Marshon Lattimore and OLB Takkarist McKinley, which will both be guys with plenty of potential to add to the New Orleans defense. The Panthers get their RB of the future in Leonard Fournette (scary), and the Buccaneers get another big name RB in Christian McCaffrey. All scare us. But we’ll be okay.

ROUND 2

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (via Cleveland Browns) – WR – Curtis Samuel – Ohio State
  2. San Francisco 49ers – OLB – Tyus Bowser – Houston
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars – TE – Evan Engram – Ole Miss
  4. Chicago Bears – QB – DeShone Kizer – Notre Dame
  5. Los Angeles Rams – DE – Taco Charlton – Michigan
  6. Los Angeles Changers – FS – Budda Baker – Washington
  7. New York Jets – OLB – T.J. Watt – Wisconsin
  8. Carolina Panthers – DE – Charles Harris – Missouri
  9. Cincinnati Bengals – DT – Malik McDowell – Michigan State
  10. New Orleans Saints – TE – Adam Shaheen – Ashland
  11. Philadelphia Eagles – RB – Alvin Kamara – Tennessee
  12. Buffalo Bills – OT – Cam Robinson – Alabama
  13. Arizona Cardinals – ILB – Raekwon McMillan – Ohio State
  14. Indianapolis Colts – CB – Chidobe Awuzie – Colorado
  15. Baltimore Ravens – G – Dan Feeney – Indiana
  16. Minnesota Vikings – DT – Caleb Brantley – Florida
  17. Washington – DT – Larry Ogunjobi – Charlotte
  18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – CB – Cordera Tankersley – Clemson
  19. Denver Broncos – DE – Carl Lawson – Auburn
  20. Cleveland Browns – CB – Adoree’ Jackson – USC
  21. Detroit Lions – ILB – Jarrad Davis – Florida
  22. Miami Dolphins – CB – Teez Tabor – Florida
  23. New York Giants – TE – Gerald Everett – South Alabama
  24. Oakland Raiders – DT – Chris Wormley – Michigan
  25. Houston Texans – CB – Sidney Jones – Washington
  26. Seattle Seahawks – G – Dion Dawkins – Temple
  27. Kansas City Chiefs – QB – Davis Webb – Cal
  28. Dallas Cowboys – DE – Tarrell Basham – Ohio
  29. Green Bay Packers – OLB – Duke Riley – LSU
  30. Pittsburgh Steelers – FS – Desmond King – Iowa
  31. Atlanta Falcons – G/T – Taylor Morton – Western Michigan
  32. Carolina Panthers (via NE) – WR – Chris Godwin – Kansas State

FALCONS PICKS

ROUND 3 – OLB – Alex Anzalone – Florida

ROUND 4 – RB – James Conner – Pittsburgh

ROUND 5 – DT – Charles Walker – Oklahoma

ROUND 7 – ILB – Tanner Vallejo – Boise State

Morton can compete for the right guard spot, and he’s probably win it with his resume.

Anzalone is my consistent third round pick. Probably won’t change it because Quinn recruited him at Florida. He can be the primary back-up OLB this season if Sean Weatherspoon doesn’t return. Athletic and such.

James Conner interests me after his past with Dan Quinn, who encouraged the former while he was undergoing cancer treatment. Quinn loves the mentality of a player as much as the physicality and Conner could step in as competition for RB3 and perhaps a replacement for Tevin Coleman if he’s able to land a starting role once his contract is up.

Walker is a guy that Charles McDonald name-checked, and I trust his opinions on defensive lineman, so I picked him here. Do you honestly think I know what the Falcons are going to do in the fifth round of the draft?

Vallejo is a guy the team has been linked to recently, and they need another inside linebacker. So, y’know, puzzle pieces and such.

Alright we’re done here until before the draft. My “official” one of these things’ll be ready then.

  1. Zach Jones

I like it. As long as they get a gaurd to protect Matt Ryan the MVP of the league.

I would be awesome if they got robinson in the first. A right side with robinson and Ryan s would be scarry for teams
