Falcons Film Room: Rising Star Austin Hooper

By Michael Aprile

As incredible and historic as the Falcons’ 2016 offense was, it’s easy to forget that the team didn’t have a lethal weapon to utilize at tight end. After Jacob Tamme went down with a season-ending shoulder injury, the starting job fell into the lap of 2016 third-round pick, Austin Hooper.

Early in the season, OC Kyle Shanahan did a tremendous job of scheming Hooper open. But later in the year, we saw glimpses of Hooper winning in one-on-one coverage, capping off his impressive rookie year with a huge touchdown reception in the game that shall not be named. With Hooper in better shape and sharing better chemistry with Matt Ryan, it’s no surprise that many are expecting a breakout season from Hooper this year.

Film specialist Daniel Spencer took an in-depth look at some of Hooper’s biggest plays of the 2016 season, which you can watch below. What are you expecting from Hooper this year?
